Ms. Fuchs, a former Oak Creek Band member, drum major and graduate, has been the Director of Bands at Oak Creek High School Since 2000 after earning her Bachelor’s of Music Education from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
As an accomplished musician, Ms. Fuchs has performed with a variety of local groups, including The Knightwind Ensemble of Milwaukee. She has served as a guest clinician at Wisconsin Hills Middle School, as well as the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. She has been a guest lecturer for Instrumental Music Methods at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and is currently a guest Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. She has served as a festival judge for the WSMA solo and ensemble activity and has presented at the Wisconsin Music Educators Association State Conference.
Ms. Fuchs is regarded as a department leader, new teacher mentor, and a key member of numerous committees and boards at Oak Creek High School and throughout the state of Wisconsin including: UW-Milwaukee Youth Wind Ensemble Board of Directors, WSMA State Marching Band Committee, the 9th Grade Center building design team and the District Wellness Committee.
Over her career, Ms. Fuchs has been recognized with multiple honors and awards including: “Grammy Foundation Music Educator Award Nominee”, recognizing excellence in the field of music education; “Oak Creek High School Principal’s Heroism Award”, for strength and courage in times of great adversity; “WMEA Outstanding Young Music Educator”, for demonstrating leadership qualities and focus on the future of education; “National Honor Roll, Outstanding American Teacher”, for contributing to the positive influence on students and the community, and “Who’s Who among America’s Teachers” an award based on the top 5% of exceptional educators nationwide. These accomplishments are consistent with her teaching philosophy of providing a well rounded music education inclusive to all students combined with fundamental character and life skills education.
In an effort to enhance their student’s educational experience beyond the classroom, Ms. Fuchs and Mr. Gregg organize yearly week long trips across the U.S. and Canada, arranging transportation, lodging, meals, attractions and performance opportunities for up to 325 students, staff, and chaperones. Their commitment to music education as a total package is evident in their efforts to provide students with performance opportunities in all facets of music, including camps, clinicians, pit orchestra, solo/ensemble festivals, concerts and honor bands. This, along with their focus on character education, ensures that when students leave the Oak Creek High School Band, they are well-rounded musicians AND well-rounded individuals.
As a result of their dedication to their students, Ms. Fuchs and Mr. Gregg have led the Oak Creek Marching Knights to many consecutive Wisconsin State Marching Band Class AAAA Championships along with various visual and musical presentation awards. While this is an amazing source of pride, the true “win” comes from the hard work and sense of accomplishment when students leave everything on the field and go on to lead successful, responsible lives, giving back to their community and showing pride and respect in all they do.
