My name is Kathleen Laide. I am a Secondary Teacher with the Ottawa Carleton District School Board, and have been teaching with the board for some time. I have the pleasure of being a member of the English Department at Glebe Collegiate Institute for the past four years.
My background is in the study of both History and English literature. I am a graduate of the University of Ottawa with a B.A. in Honours History with a concentration in Medieval Studies. In addition, I have my Bachelor of Education with a focus on Intermediate and Senior English and History, as well as a Masters of Education with a concentration on Society, Culture and Literacy in which my focus of study was on the exploration of how public history and youth culture can be more widely used in classroom practice.
In other words, I really like History and English and enjoy teaching both of these subjects a great deal, and I have extensive experience teaching throughout the OCDSB, as an occasional teacher (both short and long term), a day school instructor, and as an instructor with Continuing Education (primarily with Summer School).
When not teaching (including coaching, supervising and marking), I can be found reading, writing, watching t.v. and film, keeping up with pop culture as best I can, and spending time with my family and friends.
This includes my little gremlins.
They have been known to eat student work I've left unattended - as a result, we're going to be going digital wherever possible.
