This project began in early February 2023 when we did research on UN Sustainable Development Goals. Two Grade 7 classes decided to support Climate Action and Zero Hunger. We researched to find local charities to support; Ottawa-Carleton Wildlife Center and the Parkdale Food Center. With the support of Youth Ottawa, we gained information to support our project. Community members came to talk about our company and our decisions when it comes to the SDG’s. Members of the Parkdale Food Center (PFC) came to our school and talked about what they do and did a little Q&A. We also did a little research on products that we could create to help our charities.
Next, we researched, presented, and then voted on which products to create. After a few hurdles, we decided to create the following products; plant pod kits, eco-seed paper, and beeswax wraps. We pitched our products to the OCDSB and received generous funding. At this point, we also determined the names of our company, Fisher For The Future, and the names of our products. We chose the name Fisher For The Future because we are young entrepreneurs who want to make a difference in our local and global communities, impacting what the future looks like for everyone. These three products resulted in hours of hard work from each and every student who continued to contribute to researching and executing. We found recipes and individual cost for ingredients. We also began organizing our company. Next, we began to make the products. This was a ton of fun!
After Celebration Day 2023 at City Hall, we will begin to sell our products to the market. We hope to have sold a large amount of each of our products. All proceeds of our product sales will go to the Parkdale Food Center and the Ottawa-Carleton Wildlife Center, both which will help our local community. Although it's not helping the community all over the world, it's still the start of something special, and it's a start to spread positive news of helping the world.
This year, we formed into a club. Anyone can join, including grade sevens! We also started making two new products: Lavendel(soap), and Headstart(a science learning kit).
"We hope that you buy our products because it's for a good cause, and it will all go to The Parkdale Food Center."
"Please help us support the Ottawa-Carleton Wildlife Centre. Your support means the world to us and shows us that our hard work can really pay off!"
Our goal and objective of this project is to help make our school community and the world a better place. We hope that by taking action on the sustainable development goals that we can inspire others to do so as well. We will take the profits from our sales and donate it to our local charities, The Parkdale Food Center and the Ottawa-Carleton Wildlife Centre, in hopes of helping to achieve the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals of Zero Hunger and Climate Action.
