SOME EXAMPLES OF ACTIVITIES AND ASSIGNMENTS:
Improvisation games; write and perform monologues; produce various original and pre-scripted scenes with partners.
Mime; Melodrama; improvisation units; create a silent movie with an original soundtrack.
Vocal and physical acting skill activities and games; create mask, costume and set designs.
Puppet theatre unit; character development activities, write and produce a radio play.
Write and perform a group-created children's play, to a live audience of 300 grade 3 - 6 students from John Young E.S.
Visit Kanata Theatre to watch a live show and learn review-writing, plus experience a back-stage tour of a working community theatre.
Write, produce and perform the Remembrance Day Assembly performance on the A. Y. stage in front of the whole school community; perform in Arts Night for the school and outside community.
Participate in workshops with theatre specialists in such areas as stage fighting, mask work, makeup, lighting etc.
Accent/dialect scenes from different eras of history and world cultures; a Mask and physical comedy unit.
Produce A. Y.'s entry into the SEARS One Act Play Festival.
Be a part of a group of Drama students who visit Canada's world renowned STRATFORD FESTIVAL every year for a two day trip, where we experience THREE excellent play productions and immerse ourselves in the world of theatre.

THE 'CAPPIES' PROGRAM.
Each year, A. Y. participates in this world-renowned celebration of High School Theatre, by entering a full-length play or musical which is then judged by students and ends with a Gala hosted by the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.
A. Y. has been participating in this prestigious program for twelve years, and has been nominated for best play or musical an impressive NINE TIMES out of TWELVE, and has won THREE TIMES, as well as winning a coveted ARTS CRITICS AWARD, BEST PLAY PRODUCTION for A Few Good Men in 2010.
