Welcome to the Colonel By Learning Commons website.

This year, we are pleased to welcome Ms. McNabb to our Learning Commons as our new Library Technician. She will be at the circulation desk to support you with resource choices and your borrowing needs. Be sure to say hi when you see her!

Ms. Harris continues to serve as our Teacher Librarian, supporting your exploration, curiosity, and growth as a student. Whether you need help finding a great book to listen to or read, tracking down an essential source for research, creating mind-blowing products for your class, or using a quiet space for study or reflection, consider the Learning Commons resources.

This year, we will continue to have volunteers work at our Circulation Desk during lunch. They can help you check out books or find a resource.

We also hope to see the return of two more Co-op students from Mr. Milne's class. They usually help us every other day.

Note: As a privilege, you may eat and drink in the Learning Commons as long as you pick up after yourself. This means throwing litter into one of the garbage bins and returning the space to its original state as you leave.

On this site, you can access the Colonel By Learning Commons Catalogue, our online databases and resources, and general guidance on research and inquiry. There is also a tab for CB teachers.

Visit us in person from 8:45 am to 3:15 pm on school days.

In the Learning Commons, you can access:

Our physical collection of books. You can search the collection here and access many more online materials through SORA.

The Wellness Stations offer puzzles, games, and other activities to destress.

Special events are planned and provided by students and staff.

Printing can be done through your student credentials and is available at no cost.

Information on the SMART Library Card to access materials at partner institutions.
Information on the Ottawa Public Library Card.
Chromebook and charger use. CBSS 2025-2026 Chromebook and Charger Lending Request (this will be opened closer to the start of the school year). Colonel By has a limited number of devices available. The devices are intended for students in need (those without a device at home) and for those with a tech requirement on their I.E.P. or with SEA access. All requests will be considered, but not all will be approved. If the request is approved, you will be notified by email when the Chromebook and charger can be picked up at the Learning Commons office.
