June is designated as Pride Month in Canada, where every student and every member of the community is welcomed, valued, and respected.
Pride Month is a celebration designed to recognise the influence of the LGBTQ+ community. Celebrating diversity and people's right to live how they choose without discrimination. Pride Month promotes positivity and equal rights for all.
Raising the Pride Flag each year is one way to demonstrate our commitment. The Pride, or rainbow, flag created in 1978 by Gilbert Baker has become an international symbol of diversity and strength.

The word "Pride" was actually originally an acronym that stood for Personal Rights in Defense and Education, an organization started in 1966 to fight for equal rights for LGBTQ+ people in California. But of course, there's also the double meaning of Pride, which describes the feeling of deep pleasure or satisfaction people get from their achievements or best qualities. Pride is also defined as the "consciousness of one's own dignity." In other words, we use the word Pride to both honor an influential organization and to be proud of who we are.

Orange = healing
Yellow = sunlight
Green = nature
Indigo = harmony
