The Conservatory’s air-conditioned and soundproofed complex contains 173 practice rooms, 4 ensemble practice rooms, and 3 performance halls. Seven of the largest practice rooms are reserved for the exclusive use of percussionists for practice and storage of personal equipment. And they all have windows!! In addition, Professor Rosen’s percussion studio, complete with playback and recording equipment, is available for individual and ensemble use.
Students have access to an impressive array of standard and exotic professional quality instruments including four sets of timpani (original Dresden, 2 sets of Clevelander timpani, and 4 Ludwig balanced action drums), a 20" piccolo and a 32" timpani, a 5 octave Adams, a Kori 5-octave and a new 5 octave MarimbaOne concert marimba, a King George marimba, 4 vibraphones, 5 glockenspiels, 5 xylophones, 3 sets of chimes, dozens of cymbals and many snare drums and tom-toms (with calf heads). In addition we have a large collection of rare metallic instruments such as gongs and almglocken in extended ranges.
