But I am taking people who use wheelchairs cross country. I can cover my backside with a legal disclaimer, but family, friends and carers don’t want to sign away the right to a safe return, and I am too lazy to make the effort to persuade them, so I made the activity safe.
The heart of the safety system is the Instant Pony Release System developed for my Saddlechariot in 2006 ish with the help of Lancaster University Engineering Department Product Development Unit. It has improved consistently since then, working withKingston University and endless engineers. One of the pleasures of working with engineers, speaking as an inventor rather than an engineer, is their enthusiasm for helping people solve problems.
In 2007 I talked to the NFU Mutual Insurance Equine expert in the York office who said my Saddlechariots “are glorified horse drawn vehicles with extra safety mechanisms fitted.”
Since Insurers are well aware that anything with extra safety mechanisms is safer than things without, that puts my vehicles at the top of the safety tree.
The people I work with start as clients and become friends. I don’t do a cost benefit analysis on my friends, but I know I don't want a result like this.
