Social Studies (ALL CLASSES)

6th grade will be using World History Studies Weekly this year.

Week 7: Pyramids

This week's paper will focus on ancient leaders such as Hatshepsut, Ramses XI, and Tutankhamen, the boy king. Articles will also discuss archaeologists Howard Carter, Dr. Kent Weeks, and Jean- Francois Champollion, the man who cracked hieroglyphics. Students will also read about the Ancient Egyptian architecture.



Science (All Classes)

JOHNSON/WYSONG: DNA Projects are DUE DECEMBER 11th! (Tuesday)

We are starting our unit on Genetics and DNA. We will be studying heredity and digging into chromosomes and finding out why we look the way we do. Ask your child:

Who is the Father of Genetics, and what did he study?

How many chromosomes are in each cell of the human body?

How do cells reproduce?

What did they learn about dominant and recessive genes and can they show you what a Punnet Square is?

What does DNA look like? How many bases are in DNA? How are the bases paired?

What is a mutation?

What is a Karotype and what can be found when researching chromosomes?

Johnson Math 1

Students will continue to work on Module 6 with a Ratio differentiated project focusing on rates and ratios. Students will be able to choose what their project will include. Be looking for student work on this page soon! Our module 6 test will be Friday, November 30th.

Johnson Math 2

This week we will finish module 5 on decimals and students will begin Module 6 on Ratios and Proportions. We will be solving ratio problems and finding unit rates. Students will end the unit on a mini me project.

Moore Math Sections 2 and 3

Wysong Reading 1

We are reading the story, "Knot in My Yo-Yo String." We will be using vocabulary, cloze pages, and break out groups to increase comprehension and reading skills as 6th graders. We also are identifying declarative, imperative, interrogative, and exclamatory sentences in grammar.

Miller Reading

Section #2 - "The Giver"

We are having lots of good discussions about Utopian Societies, and how they function in the story. The students are pondering many questions that make us wonder about the way we do things or why they do certain things in the story.

Section #3 - "When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit"

We are taking a trip back into history and learning about pre WWII in Europe. We are learning about the hardships endured by a family that was forced to flee Germany as Hitler came to Power. We are learning about how prejudices and hate spread throughout Europe to certain groups of people. We are learning about countries and places in Europ and the customs that accompany those places.
