Leigh Academy Oaks- Principal's Bulletin
24th October 2025
24th October 2025
Dear Parents & Carers,
As the final week of Module One ended, it is hard to believe that we have completed one module already. Reflecting back on what has been achieved by pupils is refreshing and humbling. I have been most impressed this module by how well our new Reception cohort have settled into academy life, truly remarkable.
The final week was very busy with three Glow Disco events at the end of the academy day alongside our Book Fair. I extend my thank you to Miss Everett for organising the discos and my staff for giving up their time to support the wider academy events calendar. Further thanks are given to Mrs Mehigan for organising and running the Book Fair single handedly taking payments as my phone seemed not up to taking payment as well as hers. I also extend my thank you to you as parents and carers for supporting both the Discos and the Book Fair, both of these events help raise funds for the academy to provide opportunities and resources for our pupils.
You will have noticed that I have put some of the funds raised through events last year towards the new football goals on the field and our outdoor table tennis table. On this occasion, more robust metal framed goals have been purchased to allow for them to last longer. I hope that pupils enjoy using these at break and lunch time after listening to their feedback about how to improve social times across the academy.
On a sadder note, I share with you the news that Miss Dunn's final day was Friday, 17th October as she is taking up a post closer to home. Miss Dunn has worked at Leigh Academy Oaks for a substantive period of time and has supported many pupils in that time to which I am grateful, as I am sure you are. I wish Miss Dunn all the best in her new endeavours. Year One parents are asked to refer to communication shared with them on Thursday 16th October regarding the teaching arrangements for Module Two.
Our pupils have been out on various sporting events during the final week of term. Miss Roffey celebrated their successes and sportsmanship in assembly last Friday. I am proud of their achievements and how the pupils that represented us were recognised for their caring nature towards the other teams they played. Photos and reports from events can be seen on the Sports page here.
I know I have mentioned this in previous bulletins, but I will again. Remember to send pupils into the academy with a suitable coat. The weather is now beginning to turn and temperatures will drop no doubt after the break so having this clothing will be important. As always, remember to name items of clothing so they can be returned if they become lost.
Finally, I would like to wish each and every one of you a happy, healthy and restful October break. I hope you all find the time to relax and enjoy time together as families making memories ready to share when we return on Monday 03rd November 2025.
Best Wishes,
Mr L Coulson

We appreciate that parking around the academy is limited and it can be difficult to find a space. However, please do not park; on double yellow lines, on the junctions, over dropped kerbs or the yellow zig-zag markings near our gates. Parking in the areas creates dangerous crossing conditions for our pupils, their families and our wider community.
We are proud to work in partnership with parents to encourage the children to understand what healthy eating means and how it can be achieved through academy meals and packed lunches. We ask that parents support the academy to help pupils establish good eating habits, by providing a ‘balanced’ and ‘nutritious’ packed lunch. Pupils must have water in their water bottles. When packing fruit in lunchboxes or for morning snacks, please remember to cut smaller, rounder fruits such as grapes and tomatoes, into quarters to reduce the risk of choking.
Parents and carers are asked NOT to use their mobile phone whilst on the academy site. Members of staff will politely request you to end calls on the academy site. The use of mobile phones on site also extends to taking photographs and videos.
Please remind your child to park their bike or scooter carefully to maximise space. We know the shed is right beside the entrance gate, and this area can get congested quickly so please move along as soon as possible to allow the flow of families in and out.
As the colder and wetter weather draws nearer, you may wish to send your child into the academy wearing the above mentioned items. We kindly ask that they are labelled with your child's name so if they become lost, they can be returned to the correct owner.
After school clubs for children in years 1 to 6 have started and will run until Thursday 12th December. As places for clubs are limited, please ensure your child wants to attend the club they are signed up for using the My Child At School app.
Trainers are not permitted as school shoes.
At Leigh Academy Oaks, we take great pride in the appearance of our pupils and expect all members of our academy to adhere to our uniform standards.
You can view our uniform expectations HERE .
Please ensure that all uniform is named and checked regularly.
