This week, in assembly, we acknowledged Black History Month which is celebrated every October across The United Kingdom.
Although inclusion and diversity is at the heart of our curriculum, and taught year round, it is important to acknowledge these singificant periods of time.
We referenced our British Values of tolerance and mutual respect
We learnt about some key figures from History including William Wilberforce, Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jnr. We learnt about how they stood up for what is right and used their voice to make changes. This links perfectly with our IB curriculum where the children are encouraged to have agency through their voice and choice.
We also made links to inclusivity at our school where we want everyone- parents, staff and children- to feel that they are a valued part of our community.
After all, our creed for our children is creating chances for dreamers, idea makers and innovators.
