During this assembly, children shared their knowledge on the UN Rights of the Child, as this has been the focus in some pupils' inquiry learning recently. Children shared about equal access to human rights around the world and as always, we were very impressed with their critical thinking and ability to reflect.
Here are some of the rights that pupils raised in assembly and shared about how they have access to these in their lives:
We have the right to healthy food, clean water, proper health care and a clean, safe environment to live and learn in.
We have the right to live without discrimination.
We have the right to be heard and listened to.
We have the right to share our opinions respectfully with others.
We have the right to find out information and learn more about things that interest us.
Miss Hawkins shared the book 'The boy, the mole, the fox and the horse' with us during this assembly. We all shared how we thought the characters were being kind to each other. We spoke about what the word kind means to all of us and about how it feels good to be kind.
Caring is one of our Learner Profile Attributes and this is a word that pupils and staff use in the academy daily. It is always wonderful to hear children reflect on how everyone makes our academy a caring environment.
For our first assembly back this term, we focused on the Learner Profile Attributes of 'reflective', 'principled', 'risk-taker' and 'open-minded'.
We used the poem 'Making Mistakes' to help us reflect on how we deal with mistakes, whether we make them in work or with our friends.
Well done to the pupils who were chosen to receive a certificate in recognition of the Learner Profile Attributes which they have demonstrated through their learning and all aspects of school this week.
We had lots of pupils who were working on their communication, whether through speaking, listening or writing, and many who were risk-takers in their learning, being brave and trying new things.
Well done!
