We were delighted to take a group of pupils to Maplewood Care Home on Friday 10th October. While we could only take a small number of children from Y3 to Y6 with us on this occasion, the experience was invaluable.
Pupils met some residents, and chatted happily while painting flower pots and planting tulips. The residents have kept some in their greenhouse and we have taken some back to our school. We can't wait to watch them grow!
Our pupils were very caring and understanding of the residents who they were working with, answering lots of questions, and being very understanding and patient if these were repeated questions!
On the journey home, children reflected beatifully on this experience, sharing their stories of older people they know, or people who they know live with dementia.
We are incredibly proud of this group for the maturity they brought to this, and the absolute joy they brought to the residents.
Thank you to Miss Everett who has initiated this community link with this home and we are looking forward to many more shared experiences with the residents and staff.
