Leigh Academy Oaks- Principal's Bulletin

6th March 2026

Dear Parents & Carers,

Today we celebrated World Book Day across the academy and the excitement and wonder of reading and storytelling has been truly felt. It has been a pleasure to visit classrooms and speak with children about who they have come dressed as, why that might be a character they like and the story they are from. What has also been enjoyable was hearing from pupils who have come into the academy today as a 'word', hearing their thoughts behind this has been enjoyable and interesting.  Our Friday started with assembly and typical to form the costume parade, this gave all pupils, including nursery the opportunity to see each other in their full costume. Whilst dressing up isn't for everyone, today has focussed around reading and the enjoyment of picking up a good book! Do make the time to take your child to spend their £1 book token, details of this are below. I would like to extend my thanks to Mrs Mehigan for superb oversight and planning of the World Book Day celebrations at Oaks.

Today I was aso fortunate enough to carve out some time to see our KS2 Girls Football team in action at Leigh Academy Langley Park. As Principal, it was a pleasure to stand back and see our pupils in competition with other academies across the cluster. The Oaks team really embodied the IB Learner Profile Attributes of 'Principled' and 'Risk-Taker' this morning. From pushing themselves outside of their comfort zones to sound sportsmanship in shaking hands and congratulating opponents, it was lovely to see them enjoying themselves and representing Oaks tremendously.  I am pleased to share with you that Leigh Academy Oaks won this tournament! A massive well done to the team, see a photo of them with their trophy below.

Year three have had a busy week in particular, with a visit from an Ecologist and a visit from the Emotional Wellbeing Team surrounding Friendships. Be sure to check out the Year 3 Ecologist Visit page to find out more and see a selection of photos.

Following feedback in the recent Parent & Carer survey, I am putting together a document to share the main threads of feedback and how the academy intends to address them. In the first instance, I would like to thank all of those who left many positive comments about the academy and my staff. It has been a real pleasure to share these comments with my team to really validate the hard work, passion and dedication to our academy and pupils that they show on a daily basis. Further to this, please take sometime to look at the 'Class Newsletters' section to find out more about what your child will be learning this module.

As you will see below, the details for our MAGS event have been included again to this bulletin. We really look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on that afternoon. Class teachers have some exciting activities planned to share with the MAGS that are able to attend on the day. If you are not able to attend, pupils will still complete those activities planned and be able to share with their MAGS what they got up to.

Have a relaxing and enjoyable weekend.
