Leigh Academy Oaks- Principal's Bulletin 15
24th January 2025
24th January 2025
Dear Parents & Carers,
We have been made aware that our previous bulletin was not delivered through our communication system, apologies for that. Last week, you should have received your child's class newsletter, updating you on the learning that they will be participating in this term. Please let us know if you did not receive this.
We have combined the previous two bulletins into this one to cover the last few weeks at Leigh Academy Oaks. We trust that you have had a lovely break and are now back in full swing of the new year and the new module. We have had many exciting elements happening across the academy since we came back after the Christmas break.
Y3 have been fortunate enough to go on a trip to the Royal Opera and Ballet House to see an Operatic performance of Hansel & Gretel. For many of our pupils, this was a trip of 'firsts'! The first time seeing a theatre production, an opera or visiting London! The excitement amongst the pupils was lovely to see before the visit and when they returned to the academy after. A big thank you to Mrs Bennoson for organising the visit and to the staff who supported on the day.
Leigh Academy Oaks has been awarded the highly accredited, International School Award. This is a tremendous achievement for our academy as it recognises the hard work of our pupils and staff in delivering a curriculum that prepares pupils to be global citizens. I would like to extend my thanks and gratitude to my pupils and staff, especially Mrs Mehigan, for all of the hard work and determination that went into achieving the award. Please see the specific page in this bulletin HERE for more information.
Y5 started swimming this module in the absence of Mrs Palmer. This did mean however, I was able to accompany them on their first couple of sessions. They have been representing our academy remarkably and have really embodied the Learner Profile Attributes of being Principled and a Risk-Taker. Swimming is an important life skill and for some, it can be daunting to learn this. They have started off strongly and I look forward to hearing about the progress that they will make.
Today we shared the result of our 'Pupil Leadership Team' Elections. The Pupil Leadership Team is made up of representatives from Year 1 to Year 6 across the academy who are advocates for their class and the voice of the pupils in the academy. The Pupil Leadership Team will meet regularly with the Senior Leadership Team across the year to provide them with feedback on how the pupils at Oaks and their voices can be represented. Please see the specific page in this bulletin HERE for more information.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to warmly welcome back Mrs Hunt who is joining us for a short time to work with pupils in EYFS and KS1.
Best Wishes
Mr L Coulson

Parents and carers are asked NOT to use their mobile phone whilst on the academy site. Members of staff will politely request you to end calls on the academy site. The use of mobile phones on site also extends to taking photographs and videos.
As the weather continues to be cold and wet, please remember to send your child into the academy wearing a coat. As always, it is really important that all clothing items are named so if they become misplaced, they can be returned to the correct owner.
Make sure you follow us on Facebook to keep informed with updates and photos about what's happening during the school week.
