VE DAY!!! By Niah, Vesta and Adesewa
Last week, at Leigh Academy Oaks, we celebrated a very important day called VE day.
VE day is a super important day where we Britans are grateful for the people who sacrificed their lives for us to keep us safe. Lots of people had to move away without their family members and lives were lost.
At 12pm, we all completed a 2 minute silence in honour of all the fallen soldiers and then we were treated to an amazing performance from the nursery who created a Red Arrow display and I think we all agree it was fantastic!
Our teachers set up activities like chalk drawing (we made a hopscotch and had great fun) there was also potato and spoon races, basketball and VE themed colouring. When it was time for us to eat lunch we got to eat it outside picnic style which we really enjoyed, especially the drink cartons even though Mr Powell said they were going to be disgusting - we loved them!
Millions of people sacrificed themselves for us so that is why we celebrate VE day. We will never forget those who have died for us.
VE day started on May 7th 1945 it has been celebrated for the last 80 years in Europe.
VE day stands for VICTORY IN EUROPE!!
PLAY PALS! by Adesewa and Year 4 reporters
What are Play Pals?
Play Pals are older children that help out the younger children during break and lunch times. They make them have so much fun which is really great! Play Pals give their time helping the younger children have fun and learn new games!
How do they work?
Play Pals help the people that are the youngest in the school like the nursery, reception and year 1 because they still have a developing brain and are still learning all our school rules and how to play nicely with others .
Play Pals help mostly because it is caring and a kind thing to do.
Caring is one of our school Learner Profile Attributes. Being a Play Pal also helps us to take action in our school and help to improve it.
How do Play Pals feel ?
We interviewed some of our playpals and asked how being a play pal makes them feel; here's what they told us:
Kaine: “I feel great helping out kids. It is really fun and exciting but mostly I love helping.”
Ellie: “It feels great helping out. It's also good taking care of them. It is also exciting.”
Issac: “It feels great working with kids. It's super fun seeing the kids have lots of fun.”
