Hello! My name is Jane Doe Smith, I am currently a senior at Oxford ViIrtual Academy. My portfolio is a representation of my time at both schools I attend, Oxford Virtual Academy and Oakland Schools Technical Campus. My portfolio includes a list of achievements,certifications, and work experience to represent the skills I have obtained throughout my highschool career.
At one of my previous highschools, Oxford High School, I participated in the choir program, which not only helped my improve my social skills, but also gave me the opportunity to give back to the community. We would go to places in the community to sing for some of those who may not be able to attend our shows as well as to just put a smile on their faces. In my entire school career I took one year of Chinese and five years of Spanish through Oxford foregin language program. At my technical campus I was in the Cosmetology program. At my time here we have received our customer service certification, as well as had a chance to work in the salon we have at our campus to get hands on experience in a salon. In my junior year we spent a majority of the year learning the necessary things to pass our State Board test to receive our Licence. I've studied everything from the different chemical compositions of the various chemicals we use, to the history of cosmetology, as well as how to find the best approach to different hair types and styles. In my senior year it’s been much more practicing my skills to fine tune them and reviewing all the things we learned all last year to prepare for our practical and written test.
My plan is to become a licenced cosmetologist and find what my true passion in cosmetology is. I will need to find an apprenticeship at a salon to further learn the different techniques as well as build up a clientele and experience. During this time I will also explore different things I'm interested in and take classes to further my knowledge and keep up with new and different trends. If I so choose, I plan on going to college a year after highschool for business to help me in a long career in cosmetology and possibly open and manage my own business.
After highschool, I will need to obtain my cosmetology licence by taking two tests, a written and a practical test. The steps I can take to guarantee my success is to pay attention in my cosmetology class as well as study for the test outside of school as well as before the test. The skills I have learned here at Oakland Schools Technical Campus are sure to help me succeed as its always easier to learn complex procedures and many different things over a period of two years instead of one. I’ll be able to leave highschool with my customer service certification as well as my cosmetology licence, and having this out of highschool will give me an advantage over others in the same career field and puts me one step closer to my goal.
