Compared to other science subject, statistics class always lack the chance to have a "hand-on" experiments. Here are a few ideas on how to let students to "feel" how statistics works. In class activities are "gifts" for those attending class in-person after the pandemic.
To illustrate how the linear regression work in physical world. Although the rubberbands minimize the distance from the bar (regression line) to their hand (data points) instead of the squared vertical distance, it shows how the regression line is form when data exist. It also shows how the influential points affect the whole regression line.

Boxes of Tic Tac with two different color are given to students. They are asked to report the number of purple Tic Tac in the first 5 candies. The numbers can be used to find the proportion of the purple color, the distribution of different numbers/ estimates among students can be regarded as sampling distributions of phat.
Testing if half of it are purple

It is to illustrate human mind cannot do simulation on its own. We must rely on the object to see if
First, ask the student do imaginary coin flipping
Second, ask how many of them get 4 heads/tails in a row.
Third, ask them to do coin flipping for 20 times and record it.
Last, ask how many of them get 4 heads/tails in a row in actual coin flipping . Compare it with theoretical results
Galton Board illustrate how binomial distribution can be approximated by normal distribution. It also illustrates the random event will follow a pattern when the repetition is large enough.
