I am always looking for new ways to incorporate laboratory research into classroom education. OU students are introduced to hypothesis-driven research through the Biochemistry curriculum to better prepare them for graduate school and other scientific careers. Students in my courses will use VR technology to visualize protein-DNA complexes in 3D, design protein mutations and predict their consequences, purify recombinant proteins, and perform DNA binding experiments. They will also learn to use Sigmaplot, Snapgene, and Graphpad Prism software to analyze their results. Through this approach, students will gain a deeper appreciation of the scientific research process.
