New Zealand Mud Snails
New Zealand Mud Snails (NZMS) (Potamopyrgus antipodarum) are a recent invader in the streams and rivers of the Great Lakes region, and with support from the State of Michigan through the DNR/EGLE Invasive Species Grant Program and Trout Unlimited our research seeks to:
Provide early detection of NZMS across the state using visual surveys and environmental DNA (eDNA) sampling
Engage citizen scientists (mostly flyfishers) in tracking spread
Quantify impacts to river ecosystems, invertebrate communities, and fish condition
Work with entities in states across the region to develop detection and management strategies
