Laboratory for Advanced Bio-Photonics and Imaging

(LAB-π)

Our Research

The LAB-π, also known as the Zam Lab for Advanced Bio-Photonics and Imaging, focuses on creating smart devices for medical imaging, diagnostics, and monitoring. Our main goal is to develop and translate these devices into clinical use. We utilize innovative optical technologies such as smart laser surgery, optical coherence tomography (OCT), photoacoustics, biomedical spectroscopy, AI-assisted optical diagnostics and imaging, optical-based smart biosensors, and miniaturized optical systems. By using advanced optical methods, we are able to detect and measure things that are normally invisible to address unmet needs in biology and medicine. Our research approach is interdisciplinary and team-based, combining expertise from various fields including physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, computer science, and clinical knowledge. Our lab is located in the Experimental Research Building (C1), which is a campus that promotes discovery, interaction, and collaboration.
