Joseph Zoleta is the founder of The Black 6 Project and the Black 6 Coffee Trading Co. He joined the US Marine Corps in 2002 after 9/11 where he was an intern at the World Trade Center. He became a Rifleman in the infantry and was stationed at Camp Pendleton. He deployed in 2003 to Iraq in part of Operation Iraqi Freedom as part of the initial push into Iraq. In 2004 he deployed again to the Al-Anbar province capital of Ramadi where he was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device. He returned to NYC after his enlistment in 2006 and became an NYC EMT. He received the Keith Fairben Paramedic Scholarship to continue his training in becoming an NYC paramedic.
In 2017, he helped founded The Black 6 Project with a group of paramedics and veterans to help Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria. They also deployed to the Philippines to bring medical aide to a remote tribe in Mindoro, Philippines. He later founded the Black 6 Coffee Trading Co after bringing back raw coffee from a disaster relief trip. The company currently donates 100% of its sales to The Black 6 Project.
