I presented on Extensor Tendon Repair Protocols & Orthotics to my hand therapy department. This presentation began as a presentation in Clinical Management II, in which my assignment was to present on the immobilization protocol for zone V extensor tendon repairs with another student. During my research for this topic, I realized how little evidence there is on which protocol is ideal and most effective to improve function. I began to discuss with my fellow colleagues on their confidence in discussing protocol options with surgeons. Many of them reported they just follow what the surgeon says. I believe as therapists we should have a bigger voice in the conversation about the rehabilitation process which led me to develop this presentation further and present it to my department in order to increase their confidence in discussing protocols with our referring surgeons.
