In hand therapy, a common condition we treat is osteoarthritis of the thumb. However, not everyone improves with conservative treatment, which makes this condition more challenging to treat successfully than one would think. Therefore, our surgical team asked the hand therapy department, if they wanted to fuse a joint in the thumb, which one is better? With colleagues, we conducted a study to investigate whether, if given the choice, what affects someone's function more- fusing the IP or MP joint of the thumb?
