For my MIDI song, I made a cover of "Avril 14th" by Aphex Twin. I used Logic to create it. I primarily used the instrument Worn Tape Piano for most of the song and recorded the right and left hand parts separately. I really like the worn-in sound of this MIDI instrument and how it's not quite perfect in its tone. I then used the Romantic Organ sound to reinforce the bassline and give some more dimension to the song. I think the final piece is pretty successful. If I had more time and skill, I would have messed with the Worn Tape Piano sound more because I think the sound gets a little grating throughout the piece (but maybe that's because I listened to it so much). I also wanted to add some kind of orchestral chime or bell sound but I couldn't find one that I liked for this piece in the Logic library. I think the piece could use just a little more dimension and intrigue to set it apart a little more from the original. This is a project that I think I'll come back to, maybe for the remix.
