How can we streamline communication between students and teachers? Is there a way to make test prep and academic skill building fun? What tools can we create to assist people who struggle with social anxiety? What can we do to increase the awareness of local community volunteer opportunities among high school and undergraduate students? How can we develop solutions to these problems and how can we tell if our solutions will really make an impact?
Those are some of the questions that students from Thomas A. Edison High School (TAEHS) and Middle School 217 (M.S. 217) set out to answer as the first cohort in the "Preparing Today's Students for Tomorrow's New York" K12 program.
With learning content created by NYU IT volunteers, teachers from TAEHS and M.S. 217 taught lessons in Project Management, Design, Development, and Data Science to give students the tools they needed to help develop solutions to these questions. From here, students worked in small teams to design and develop their own websites and applications using agile project management to create iteration timelines and project goals.
