This site was created by the students of NYU's Black Italia course, taught in Spring 2022 by Prof. Gianna Albaum. We have created this site as a resource for those interested in the role of race and migration in contemporary Italian culture.
In particular, we hoped that this website would serve as a guide to modern Italy for young people of color who are traveling or studying abroad in Italy. We have included resources related to potential day trips, excursions, walking tours, and local Black-owned businesses.
We also intend this website to feature as a showcase for recent exhibitions, lectures, and other events related to anti-racism in Italy hosted by the Casa Italiana in New York City as well as by NYU Florence.
Finally, we would like to draw attention to our page Resources for Scholars, which includes resources related to scholarship on Black Italia, including bios of black Italian scholars as well as specific scholarly resources and bibliographies.
