Type of Learning Material
Videos: Engaging video content featuring expert interviews, success stories, and animated explanations of growth mindset concepts. (Bates, 2019)
Scenario Activities: Scenario-based simulations allowing learners to apply growth mindset principles in realistic situations.
Text-Based Content: Readings and articles exploring topics around growth mindset and its implications for academic and professional success. These texts will be presented in chunks to reduce cognitive load.
Delivery Mode
Fully Online: This course will be entirely online to accommodate the needs of graduate students with who have different schedules.
Asynchronous: By providing an asynchronous course, this will allow students to access course materials and complete activities at their own pace (Bates, 2019).
Journaling: Students will be required to have a virtual or physical journal for this course, as it will serve as a way to reflect on the student's own experiences as it pertains to the fixed and growth mindset learnings. Summative and formative assessment entries will be submitted at the end of each lesson.
Formative Assessments: Multiple choice knowledge checks, a categorizing activity, as well as journaling reflections will be incorporated throughout the lessons to measure student understanding and offer students the opportunity to reflect on their learnings.
Technologies and Platforms
Learning Management System (LMS): This will be used for course delivery, content management, and assessment tracking.
Interactive Content Tools: By including different forms of interacting with the content through text, video, images, interactive knowledge check activities, and journaling, students will be able to process and interact with the material in a variety of ways, relieving cognitive load through chunking, and differentiating the ways students can process content (Bates, 2019).
Alignment with Learning Objectives
Goal 1: Learners will understand the benefits of having a growth mindset as a student and a professional.
Objective 1: Learners will define the key characteristics of a growth mindset, such as embracing challenge, persisting in the face of setbacks, valuing effort, and seeking input from others.
Videos and text-based content will help learners define key characteristics of a growth mindset, aligning with this objective by providing foundational knowledge.
Objective 2: Learners will differentiate between fixed mindset beliefs and growth mindset beliefs in educational and professional settings.
Interactive knowledge check activities focused on differentiating between fixed and growth mindset beliefs in various settings, fostering deeper understanding and application. (Dirksen, 2016)
Objective 3: Learners will evaluate the correlation between mindset and academic or professional success, identifying how a growth mindset contributes to resilience and achievement.
Video content and celebrity interviews will illustrate the correlation between mindset and success, supporting learners in evaluating this relationship and identifying its impact on resilience and achievement.
Goal 2: Learners will develop strategies to begin cultivating a growth mindset.
Objective 1: Learners will engage in reflective exercises to identify their own fixed mindset tendencies and areas for growth.
Reflective exercises and self-assessment tools will prompt learners to identify their own fixed mindset tendencies, initiating the process of self-awareness and growth. (Dirksen, 2016)
Objective 2: Learners will explore various strategies for cultivating a growth mindset, such as setting learning goals, seeking constructive feedback, and embracing failures as learning opportunities.
Various strategies for cultivating a growth mindset, such as goal-setting and seeking feedback, will be explored through interactive modules and journaling activities.
Objective 3: Learners will create an action plan strategy that they will use to adopt and reinforce a growth mindset in the week following the completion of the core lessons.
Learners will follow a step-by-step week-long journaling activity based on their strategy plan to start implementing a growth mindset in their real life while also demonstrating their learnings, empowering them to adopt and reinforce a growth mindset in their academic and professional endeavors.
Rationale
Multimedia Approach: By incorporating videos, interactive simulations, and text-based content, learners with diverse learning preferences are accommodated, enhancing engagement and understanding. (Bates, 2019)
Fully Online Delivery: Delivering the course online ensures accessibility and flexibility for graduate students, allowing them to participate at their own pace and convenience.
Interactive Elements: Incorporating interactive elements (through videos, quizzes, and journaling) promotes active learning and application of growth mindset concepts, fostering deeper understanding and retention. (Dirksen, 2016)
