Our course is currently being piloted with 14 students across 2 Brooklyn middle schools in a hybrid classroom setup.
We had the opportunity to observe the optional orientation session on Monday, 5/9. We will get some more feedback when the results from the pre-course survey have been analyzed. We took notes of some strengths and some potential areas for growth for future lessons and implementations, and we will highlight a few of them here:
Students seemed to really like the icebreaker activity where they could say their favorite games. That built a sense of community when discussion arose about different games they've all played.
14 students currently registered- strong numbers
Activities worked with using the Zoom chat, students being in person, and students online.
For this implementation, each session is 2 hours long (not 1, like we planned for), so a few activities had to be added
From the six students who attended this optional first session, only one student used she/her pronouns- the registration is mostly boys
