Decolonizing High Line Park, New York City

Welcome to this walking tour of High Line Park

Hello, my name is Dr. Genia Naro-Maciel and I am pleased to guide you to the High Line Park in New York City, with a focus on environmental and ecological justice, as well as decolonization. But first, here is some important information to review before leaving for the park.

This module provides about 100 minutes of instructional time and can be used individually or in combination with others in this collection, such as the “Sustainable NYU'' visit. The tour is about an hour long.

Before you go, please download two free apps, The High Line and  SEEK by iNaturalist, and look them over. Review the High Line website for background and check Visitor Information for any access updates.

Orient yourself and stay safe.  As you can see on the map below, you will enter the High Line at its first entrance located on Gansevoort and Washington Streets, and walk North towards 30th Street, where the tour ends. Plan your route to the High Line from where you are. Safety first! Do not walk and use your phone at the same time and remain aware of your surroundings at all times.

When you arrive at the Gansevoort High Line entrance, climb the stairs or use the elevator, then take a moment to get your bearings and look around. Walk to  Stop 1, the Tiffany Overlook directly over the stairs.
