– Q: Where do the classes take place?
A: All instructional sessions take place at the Elmer Holmes Bobst Library. Consult the Curriculum & Schedule page for your respective track's assigned room details.
– Q: How many hours per day is this commitment?
A: The camp consists of 12 hours of in-class time, in addition to individual out-of-class assignments. In total, you should expect to commit to a total of 15 hours to complete the camp. To support your learning, students can attend daily “Tea Time” sessions offered by an interdepartmental team of faculty and staff for individual and group discussions. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to further collaborate with peers, learn from faculty, and develop the skills you learn during the in-class sessions.
– Q: What is the daily schedule?
A: Participants must attend both instructional sessions each day, at 10:00am-12:00pm and 1:00pm-3:00pm. In addition, there is optional Tea Time/Office Hours each day at 3:00pm, which offers an opportunity to gather, meet faculty and staff engaged with the technology you are learning, and discuss your scholarly projects.
– Q: Do I need to bring my own device?
A: Yes. We require a laptop, not a tablet or Chromebook. If you do not have a laptop, we are happy to provide you with a workstation for the workshop. Most of the lessons can be done within an internet browser, with the exceptions noted below. If a participant has a laptop already, this should be used in order to facilitate using the software within a familiar environment. If a participant does not have a laptop, we are happy to provide one for the workshop. In addition:
Track 3 participants must have installed R and R Studio on their own laptop. Detailed instructions for how to do this are available on our course prep document.
Track 2 and 3 participants should install either Tableau Public or the Tableau Desktop available free to students if using their own laptop. Either version is sufficient for this class.
– Q: Is there an online option?
A: No. This is an in-person only opportunity.
– Q: Will these sessions be recorded?
A: No.
