You will complete a transcription-based analysis of a song of your choice in the vein of the work we do collaboratively in class. Your project will include transcriptions of important song elements, including melodic performances and/or rap flows, main hooks, drum grooves, bass lines, instrumental solos, chord charts, and the like. You will also offer a critical evaluation of the song’s meaning and emotional tenor. This information can be shared via an in-class presentation (with slide deck), podcast (with accompanying transcriptions), or video. The project will be evaluated on accuracy and detail of transcriptions, appropriateness of transcription material, thoroughness of critical evaluation, and clear communication in the chosen medium.
