Muhammad (Mo) Celebi
2024
Muhammed is a second-year medical student at the Old Westbury campus who graduated from UConn with a major in Biology in 2020. Before starting his medical education at NYITCOM, he worked full time as an EMT for two years where he gained exposure to the current state of healthcare in his community. He is passionate about building upon this experience as a future healthcare provider and ensuring quality healthcare for all patient populations. In his free time, he enjoys music production, hiking, fishing with Derin, and cooking.

Samantha Juang
Samantha is a second-year medical student who graduated cum laude from UC Berkeley with a major in Integrative Human Biology. She is currently undecided about which specialty she wants to go into, but is considering OB/GYN. Before joining the Zhang Lab, Samantha had never participated in cancer research, but had done some research in Alzheimer’s Disease. She is passionate about community service and global health and is involved with the NYITCOM Community Free Clinic and various global health-related groups on campus. In her free time, Samantha likes to swim, watch television, crochet, and try out new restaurants with friends.
Julia Neiswander
Julia is a second year medical student from the Arkansas campus who participated in DNA2 research this summer with the Zhang Lab. She graduated with a B.S. in Biology and participated in lymphatic research at Texas A&M University. She is passionate about women’s health and providing care in rural communities. Cancer research is something she hopes to pursue throughout her career as an aspiring OB/GYN physician. Outside of the lab, Julia likes to do yoga, try new restaurants, and spend time with friends and her cat Lilac.
Alexis Perez, B.S., M.S,
2022-2024
Alexis was a Lab technician for Dr. Zhang from 2022 to 2024. She has graduated from King's College with a Bachelor in Science in Neuroscience with concentrations in Mathematics, Statistics, and Biology; and from Lehigh University with a Masters in Science in Molecular Cellular Biology. Alexis comes from a diverse background knowing techniques in immunology, cell/tissue culture, behavioral neuroscience, electrophysiology, protein isolation, and protein analysis. She now teaches high school biology in PA.

Jasmeet Singh
Jasmeet is a second-year medical student who majored in biochemistry, Molecular biology and theater before coming to NYITCOM. He has been interested in research biochemical mechanisms underlying cancer since he was in undergrad and is grateful for the opportunity to do so with the Zhang lab. In his spare time, he likes to go one walks, drink iced coffee and watch movies.

Manrose (Manny) Singh, PhD
2021-2024
Manny is a current DO/Ph.D. student in Dr. Zhang's lab. He graduated from Vassar College in 2015 with a B.A. in Biochemistry. Manny's research interests lie in examining the connection between telomere maintenance mechanisms and chromosomal instability in cancer cells. He is also passionate about exploring ways to eliminate disparities in cancer treatments among minority groups. On his days off from the lab, Manny enjoys tennis, traveling and watching television.

Christopher Tong
Chris is a second-year medical student at NYITCOM and graduated from stony brook University with a BE/MS in biomedical engineering. Chris is honored to be participating in advancing the field of cancer research since his family has been deeply affected by countless of cancers. During Chris's free time, he spends time tinkering with 3D modeling and printing along with working on car projects.

Derin Ibrahim Yetil
Derin is a second-year medical student in the Zhang Lab. He graduated with B.A. in History and a double minor in Economics and Chemistry from Marist College. He is dedicated to the field of Hematology-Oncology with previous research experience at UCONN Medical Cancer Research Lab. He is passionate about learning in all fields, and plans to pursue a career in Hematology-Oncology. Outside of school, Derin enjoys reading, camping, fishing with Mo, and skiing the Ice (East) Coast.
