Survey: Wearable Devices and PD
To advance the care of individuals with Parkinson’s Disease (PD), the University of Washington is conducting an anonymous online survey of the experiences and perceptions of individuals with Parkinson’s disease and their specialist providers on the management of Parkinson’s disease with wearable devices (smart watches, fitness trackers, motion tracking medical devices, etc.).
Individuals do not need to have experience with these devices. Any interested individual who wants to learn more or participate can go to https://sites.uw.edu/wearablesurveypd/
If you have any questions, you can contact Dr Gilbert, rgilbert@apadaparkinson.org
Research: Consider joining a virtual study where you can participate entirely from the comfort of your own home.
People with Parkinson’s disease or other forms of parkinsonism have a much higher risk of hip and other fractures.
TOPAZ (Trial of Parkinson’s and Zoledronic Acid) will test if zoledronate, can prevent fractures in people with Parkinson’s disease or other forms of parkinsonism, whether or not they have osteoporosis.
You could receive $100 upon enrollment and $50 per year during the study.
For more information, please visit TOPAZstudy.org, or call us directly at (415) 317-5748.
BOXERS
After two or three sessions with RSB I could feel an immediate beneficial change: better attitude, sore muscles (a good thing), and a general lifting of spirit. The coaches work well together to get (and keep) everyone involved in the program. TERRIFIC. They also work to have us act as a team -- not any easy task considering the many different backgrounds of the boxers. Thanks to everyone involved in the program!!
This program has provided me with a place to go and exercise with a great group of people with Parkinson's Disease. I've become stronger with positive results and seem to steadily improve through the program. I enjoyed having online classes when I couldn't attend in person.
This program at NYIT RSB has turned my life around that I am with people who also have PD. The physical, social, and mental development of myself makes life easier with more understanding of what to do.
LOVED ONES/CARETAKERS
This program has been so instrumental in helping deal with PD. What makes this program work is not just the boxing, but the camaraderie of each of the members with each other. I have seen his cognitive awareness has gotten better and he loves and needs the physical workout.
The program has been really wonderful! He comes home energized and upbeat. He really looks forward to the sessions. I've seen an improvement in his balance, stamina, and mood.
RSB is a great program geared towards patients with PD. I see much improvement with balance, stamina, coordination, socialization, and support.
