There are a number of clubs on campus that fall under the umbrella of the College of Engineering & Computing Sciences. These clubs are considered "United Engineering". These clubs are chapters of their nationally recognized, technical professional organizations.
The current CoECS clubs include:
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
The Society for Women Engineers (SWE)
The National Society for Black Engineers (NSBE)
The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE)
The Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES)
The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)
Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)
American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASM)
Cybersecurity Club
Not all clubs within CoECS need to be nationally recognized chapters, however. Most clubs within CoECS are academic-based programs that allow students to network with industry-professionals, strengthen their soft and technical skills and connect with the New York Tech community.
Any student can start a club on campus. New clubs can connect with:
Paula Juric Kreuz (Manhattan campus) or Raed ElZenaty (Long Island campus)
to begin the process.
For clubs to be recognized university-wide, clubs must be verified through the Student Government Association (SGA). For clubs to be eligible for club registration, they need to be active with five engaged e-board members and have at least eight student members before the next club registration deadline. Until then, they are considered "interest groups." Interest groups are not allotted a budget, but may begin hosting recruitment events such as tabling, interest meetings, and are permitted to attend the Student Involvement Fairs (fall and spring semesters). Interest groups may hang flyers to generate interest in their organization. It is essential that interest groups generate interest in their group before becoming an organization.
All organization members must read and abide by the SGA Student Organization Handbook. Academic Departments cannot start an undergraduate organization unless a student brings forth the desire to have the organization and it is operated solely by students. Students may wish to have a dual recognition of their organization on both the Long Island and New York City campuses under one executive board. In order to obtain dual recognition, student should connect with SGA directly.
