CS First is Google’s free introductory computer science program, for students in grades 4-8. Students learn fundamental computer science skills and to code in Scratch, a block-based coding language. CS First has taught more than 2 million students globally to code and aims to help students see themselves represented in computer science. Students will create fun and innovative projects that can be shared with classmates, teachers and parents.
CS First is flexible and adaptable to be integrated into any content area (math, science, social studies, ELA, or an elective) and used in any classroom setting (gen ed, electives, tech class, libraries).
Better yet, CS First does not require prior computer science experience from teachers, and we find that many teachers learn alongside their students!
Google provides professional development for teachers through various PD providers and is here to support you along the way. Learn about professional development offerings here.
You can bring CS First to schools in a few simple steps. All materials are available online and print materials kits are free to order.
