On April 1st, the launch of the Artemis II mission took place. This mission was unlike any other, as it set the record for the farthest humans have traveled beyond Earth’s orbit, surpassing the previous record set by the Apollo 13 astronauts in 1970. Pretty cool, right? While in NASA’s past missions humans have landed directly on the moon, this recent launch marks the farthest we have traveled into the vast universe. The AP Art section of the Nyack High School Super Duper Cool Art Show gave students a chance to turn their personal experiences, memories and perspectives into artwork that represents who they are. The show included paintings, portraits, still lifes, and mixed media projects all with different styles and themes. The AP students were required to connect their work to one main theme or message, bringing their ideas together. Click on the title to continue reading!

What one values determines what is prioritized when engaged in the learning process. Oftentimes, material is simplified within classrooms to make it more accessible. But, one must ask: When this happens, are ideas being clarified, or is the depth that makes them valuable being removed? Click on the title to continue reading!

Every spring, course selection season brings the same question: Should I take an AP class? Or am I not “smart enough?" As the school year ends, students begin classes for the next year, unless you're a senior. I myself am a sophomore and I've taken two AP classes this year. I consider myself one who likes to challenge myself, and I enjoy hard work as I believe it pays off. Click on the title to continue reading!

Despite the rise of AI use in the work world, it has yet to show signs of taking over blue collar jobs. Jobs such as plumbers, welders, truck drivers, firefighters, and especially auto mechanics do not have anything to fear. In fact, mechanics are one of many professions that AI will never fully take over because these jobs require hands on skill, problem solving, and critical thinking judgement skills that AI simply cannot copy. "How Has Principal Saieva Impacted Your Time at Nyack?"
Mr. Teasdale, Assistant Principal
“Ms. Saieva and I have been here together for the entirety of her 14 year reign as principal, and the thing that I have heard her say more than anything is that we must make every decision based on what’s good for kids. I think that’s what resonates with me, her relentless focus on making student centered decisions...so I’ll take that with me for the rest of my career.”
Justin Villanueva, Senior
“Ms. Saieva is always smiling and so welcoming to the students of Nyack. Her positive attitude is so important in an environment like this and it brings peace to the world.”
Ms. Longing, Director of Guidance
“Ms. Saieva reminds me every day that every decision in education should be student-centered. Whether it’s a new idea, a new program, or a new initiative, she always stays focused on how it supports students, always leading with the question - “How is this good for students?” That is what I will always be grateful to her for.”
Donovan Kirsner, Sophomore
“She is very warm, welcoming, and accepting in everything she does, from how she hugs students to how she talks to them and accepts them. She’s a very good principal and I’m sad she is leaving”
"The Honorable" Mr. Joyce, English Department Chair
“I have been in a number of school districts and I’ve never worked with a more skilled principal than Ms. Saieva. She is not only capable of doing a million things at once, but she does it with a smile on her face, she does it while hugging students, and she never misses a beat.”
Adelina Martinez, Senior
“Ms. Saieva has impacted my time here because she’s very supportive and someone I can always look up to. She’s always very caring, and personable, and she’s always going to be there for you. She’s never going to leave your side, and she’s there for every student.
Beatrice Gunther, Junior
“Ms. Saieva has always made an effort to reach out to students. Especially in the hallways, she’s always just, like, a bright personality, and will always ask how your day’s been and how you are. It makes a difference in your day. If you’re having a hard day and you see her and it’s kind of like, ‘hooray!’”
Alisha Faafeu, Senior
“She’s always been very sweet and kind, and she greets me in the hallway all the time!”
Ms. Gell, ASL Teacher & Drama Club Advisor
“She has always been a huge support to the ASL program and the Drama program. She's helped make sure all students feel supported and is always so fired up and excited about new ideas”

With the conclusion of another year here at the Spectrum, my short time as editor comes to an end as I depart from Nyack High School. But the end of each school year brings the perfect opportunity for reflection and growth, and this year I would like to recognize the spectacular accomplishments of this newspaper as we welcomed 15 new staff members and published eight monthly issues filled with original articles from our talented writers.
