Demonstrating its commitment to community welfare and humanitarian service, the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) of Northwestern University, in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross, spearheaded a Mobile Blood Donation Drive in May 2026, with the support of the Siklab Diwa Class of 2026 OJT interns.
The initiative encouraged voluntary blood donation to help augment the blood supply for patients requiring emergency medical assistance. Beyond its humanitarian purpose, the activity promoted volunteerism, civic responsibility, and the university's CHAMPS core values, reinforcing CCJE's commitment to developing socially responsible criminology professionals dedicated to serving the community with compassion, integrity, and selflessness.
Reaffirming its commitment to community service and social responsibility, the Northwestern University–College of Criminal Justice Education (NWU-CCJE), in collaboration with the Center for Community and Social Development (CCSD) and the College of Criminal Justice Education Student Organization (CCJESO), conducted a Feeding and Gift-Giving Program at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Laoag City on January 17, 2025.
The initiative aimed to extend compassion, encouragement, and meaningful support to Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) and jail personnel through fellowship, inspirational messages, talent presentations, and the distribution of gifts and food. The activity also provided an opportunity to strengthen institutional partnerships and promote the values of hope, inclusivity, and positive transformation within the correctional community.
Through this outreach initiative, CCJE demonstrated that criminology education extends beyond academic instruction, emphasizing the importance of empathy, humanitarian service, and respect for human dignity. The activity also contributed to Sustainable Development Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by fostering community engagement and supporting a more humane and inclusive correctional environment.
Demonstrating its commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement, Northwestern University (NWU), through the College of Maritime Education (COME) and the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE), took part in the TIMPUYOG on Sanitation and Environment Clean-Up Drive held at Marcos Stadium, Laoag City, on May 16, 2025.
The activity mobilized student-volunteers from both colleges to help maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the stadium and its surrounding areas in preparation for Ilocos Norte's hosting of Palarong Pambansa 2025. The initiative was undertaken upon the invitation of the provincial government through Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc.
Through this collaborative effort, NWU reaffirmed its commitment to environmental protection, civic responsibility, and community partnership, contributing to the achievement of SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
As part of Northwestern University's celebration of Internationalization Day 2025, the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) participated in the collaborative TIMPUYOG initiative, “A Day with the Community,” held on June 14, 2025, in Barangay Gabu Sur, Laoag City.
Highlighting its commitment to public safety and community service, the CCJE conducted a Defense Tactics Demonstration for barangay tanods, youth leaders, barangay officials, and interested community members. The activity featured practical demonstrations on situational awareness, basic self-defense techniques, and community-based peacekeeping strategies. Participants also engaged in hands-on exercises designed to strengthen their ability to respond appropriately to challenging situations and contribute to maintaining peace and order in their community.
The initiative brought together various university colleges, faculty members, students, and community partners in delivering meaningful services to the residents of Barangay Gabu Sur. It also provided an opportunity for international observers from Universitas Persada Indonesia, Northwestern University's partner institution, to witness the university's community engagement initiatives.
Through its participation, the CCJE reaffirmed its commitment to extending criminology education beyond the classroom by promoting public safety awareness, practical skills development, and active community involvement in building safer and more resilient communities.
