These are not ROCC sponsored courses but are listed here as a courtesy.
The following online statewide training course will be offered during the 2024-25 program year. Information will be added as it becomes available. Last update November 17, 2024.

Microsoft Office Specialist
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This program focuses on training for the Microsoft Office Specialist Certificate. A Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certificate can be earned for Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Students who complete this course will possess high level skills in using the Microsoft applications.

NRS LEVELS: Low Intermediate Basic Education (ABE Level 3 - all subjects)
TEST BENCHMARKS: Minimum CASAS Reading GOALS scale score: Reading: 217-227+, CASAS Life and Work 221+, or TABE reading equivalent
DATES: FY25 Onboarding Dates: No onboarding for July or August. All dates are Wednesdays 1-4 pm. Sept 18, Oct 23, Nov 20, Dec 18, Jan 29, Feb 19, Mar 19, Apr 23, May 21, June 18
DAY/TIME: Asynchronous as well as required weekly 1 hour Learning Circles. Students pick one of 3 options- Monday at 8 am, Tuesday at noon, Wednesday at 7 pm
CLASS SUPPORTS: Zoom support Mon-Fri, peer support for context reviews projects, Certiport testing is offered weekly and is free for participants.
STUDENT EXPECTATIONS: 10+ hours per week, attend a weekly learning circle to check in on progress. Need to communicate with instructors if not meeting 10 hour requirement. Must pass 4 Northstar exams: Computer Basics, Internet Basics, Using Email and Word. These can be proctured or unproctored.
ONLINE DELIVERY PLATFORM: Zoom and CANVAS LMS; Onboarding for the class is synchronous on Zoom 1-4 pm on dates listed on flyer. The class content is asynchronous.

DOCUMENTATION PROCESS FOR STUDENT HOURS: Monthly SiD attendance report sent to Home ABE site.
ADDITIONAL NOTES: Students will need access to a laptop or desktop computer. Macs are not recommended. No specific software is required, and students should not purchase MOS 365. Students will have access to a virtual lab with the most up to date version of Microsoft Office to complete assignments.

Paraprofessional Test Prep
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
Math, Reading, and English content tested on the Praxis Paraprofessional Exam
Knowledge and skills needed to be successful as a para--even during distance learning!
Common online platforms used now during distance learning including: Zoom, Google Classroom, Google docs/presentations, Jamboard, Desmos, and more!
The Praxis Paraprofessional certification allows you to work as a para in any K-12 school setting (must also possess High School Diploma or GED).
Participants will schedule their Praxis exam at the conclusion of the course

NRS LEVELS: High Intermediate Basic Education (ABE Level 4 - ELA)
TEST BENCHMARKS: Minimum CASAS Goals Reading score of 228+, CASAS Life and Work 221+, and Math score of 210+ or TABE reading and math equivalents.
DAY/TIME: Synchnonous class is held 9-11 am, Tues & Thurs. Asynchronous options 24/7 through assigned content in Master Teacher. Synchronous Zoom meetings will be held 1 on 1 or in small groups on Mon & Wed.
CLASS SUPPORTS: 1:1 and small group teacher supports available M-Th.
STUDENT EXPECTATIONS: Full training: 4 hours of live zoom class per week, 13 lesson modules + 2 practice tests before eligible to test, 2 reading assignments per month, engagement with Career Lab 1x monthly minimum, complete classwork as assigned.

TEAS Preparation
COURSE DESCRIPTION: The TEAS Prep Class provides: a review math, anatomy, physiology, physical science, scientific reasoning, English language usage, and reading comprehension - all areas assessed in the TEAS.
HOST CONSORTIUM: St. Paul Community Literacy Consortium/ International Institute of MN
INSTRUCTOR: Luke Kretchmer, lkretchmer@iimn.org
DATES: September 9 - December 16. 2024; Synchronous class is 5-8pm every Monday.
DAY/TIME: Mondays 5 - 8 pm online; 6 additional hours of online
CLASS SUPPORTS: Sychronous instruction, instructors hold office hours for questions regarding Google Classroom or class material
STUDENT EXPECTATIONS: 6 hours of classtime per week (Zoom) and 5-10 hours of homework
NRS LEVELS: Low Adult Secondary Education (ABE Level 5 - ELA)
CUT SCORE: No minimum TABE Reading or Math scores required for participation in prep class; however, TABE 9.0 in Reading and Math are recommended in order to pass the TEAS exam.
DELIVERY PLATFORM: synchronous, online class over Zoom and Google Classroom; Both online via Zoom; +5-10 hours of independent practice
