Regional Online Career Collaborative began as an ABE Regional Transitions project in the Fall of 2021. Four ABE consortia in the NW Minnesota Transitions Region submitted a project to provide career-oriented online courses available to all students in the ten consortia throughout the region.
Piloting ABE consortia included:
Alexandria ABE
Lakes Area ABE (headquartered in Detroit Lakes)
Moorhead ABE
NW Service Cooperative ABE (headquartered in Thief River Falls)
In 2023-24, the project expanded to include the NE Minnesota Transitions Region. This includes Duluth Adult Education and the Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency.
Since its inception, ROCC continues to evolve and grow. It now covers more than 100 school districts stretching across the northern half of Minnesota.
The needs of the region are monitored and class offerings are adjusted accordingly. Because of this, 20 distinct courses have been offered over the four years of the project. Some courses such as TEAS Prep, Driver's Ed Written Exam Prep, and English vocabulary for specific career paths have become staples.
The demand for highly qualified paraprofessionals keeps increasing. To meet this need, Paraprofessional Training and Certification is a new course offered for the 24-25 school year. This course takes students through the first 13 lessons of ParaEducator Online Training. Students really enjoy being able to move through the material as a cohort with the support of a teacher. Certification testing is provided upon completion of the course. Of the 10 students who completed the first session, 9 successfully passed their certification test.
The 2024-25 school year was ROCC's biggest year yet...187 students registered for 12 different classes generating 2,907 classroom hours!
Paraprofessional class was the most-attended class
