The Track and Field open gym for distance running with Mr. Canfield has been cancelled for today

The Annual All You Can Eat Pizza Night for the Northwestern High School Softball team will be on Tuesday, February 20th from 4:30 -8:00 PM at Valenza's Restaurant. The cost is $8.00 for adults and $4.00 for children. There will also be a Chinese Auction and cookies for dessert. Please come out and support the softball team!

FFA Week will be held from February 15th to the 23rd. In honor of the week, there will be the following "theme" days:

Thursday, February 15 - Flannel Almost Friday

Wednesday, February 21 - 'Merica Day

Thursday, February 22- Camo Day

Friday, February 23- Blue and Gold FFA Pride Day

All through the month of February, the National Honor Society will be collecting Pennies for Patients. Every homeroom will have a bucket to collect coins! The winning homeroom will get donuts and juice! However, you can put dollar bills in other homeroom buckets and that money will subtract off of the money they have raised! The goal is to raise $500 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. There is also an opportunity to donate online - copy and paste the following link to your web browser:


Camp Cadet, a leadership and character development camp, will run June 17-22 at Allegheny College in Meadville. The camp is designed to build a better understanding of law enforement while instilling self confidence. Open to boys and girls 13-15 years of age. See the Guidance Office for more information.

Join the Drama Club for the 2nd Annual Color Fun Run this year. There is a discount on registration for all students, faculty, and staff. Early registration has been extended to March 1st. See Mrs. Ordakowski for a registration form.

Northwestern High School will be offering the SAT test here on March 21st. The cost is $46, or $60 with the essay.

Attention FBLA Members: Starting Tuesday January 23rd and continuing through Tuesday March 27, members are requested to meet in Mrs. Miller's room 10 from 2:30 to 3:30. We will use this time for fundraising work and state study sessions.

The next Open Gym date is currently scheduled for February 20, 2018. Schedule listings of all the open gym dates are available outside Mr. Parker's classroom. See Coach Parker for additional information.

Any Sophomore or Junior interested in learning more about RCI/Dual Enrollment, which is obtaining college credits while in High School, please sign up in the Guidance Office.

The Explorer's program is offering career exploration opportunities for any student grades 9-12. The following careers are highlighted: St. Vincent health careers: Fire and EMS, Skilled trades; PSU Behrend: Engineering, Engineering Tech, and STEM. Updated 2018 applications are now available for the following scholarships in the Guidance Office:

The Albion Area Clinic Foundation

The John Gillette Memorial Scholarship

The Educational Foundation Scholarship

The Patrick J. DiPaolo Scholarship Application is now available in the Guidance Office. You must be a college bound senior accepted to a college/university. You also must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and be recognized as a high school athlete in one or more of the 21 sanctioned PIAA sports.

The Community Foundation is now open as of January 1. To apply for scholarships go to www.comm-foundation.org to apply. There are many scholarships available with a March 15 deadline.

The Erie County Association of Boroughs Scholarship application is now available in the Guidance Office. A $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior in Erie County, or a full time student returning to college. See the Guidance Office for more details

The Erie County Association of Township Officials Scholarship application is now available in the Guidance Office. Applicants must reside in a Township in Erie County. Three $800 scholarships will be awarded this year

The PA School Public Relations Association Scholarship Application is available in the Guidance Office. This is a $1,000 scholarship which will be awarded to worthy high school seniors who plan to pursue a career in a communications field.

Attention Seniors: There are several new scholarship applications available on the rack outside the Guidance Office. Stop by to check them out!

The Erie County Annual Teen Driving Competition is for students with at least one year of unblemished driving record -no crashes and no moving violations. Prizes are awarded of up to $1,000. The competition will take place on Monday, April 9th. Please sign up in the Guidance Office by February 16.

Penn State Behrend is hosting their annual summer programs for Juniors: The Minority College Experience and The Women in Science and Engineering Program. There are no tuition fees, but you must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. See the Guidance Office for more information.

The Ruth Morton Harris and Walter J. Harris Scholarship Application is available online at www.comm-foundation.org.

The deadline to apply is March 1

Seniors: If you have received any scholarships or have confirmed what you will be doing after graduation, please stop in the Guidance Office and let Mrs. Frawley know. This is very important!
