End of 1st 9 Weeks Edition
Congratulations to 7th Grader Braxton Schieffer for being selected as our October Student of the Month!
Special Thanks to our Student Council members and Mrs. Karalee Graves for bringing in food for the Kokomo Rescue Mission. They also raised $110 selling "Boo-Grams" to donate to the American Cancer Society.
Principal's Note:
We have finished the first 9-weeks of school. Grades will be finalized soon and Honor Roll lists published. I want to thank all parents who attended our parent-teacher conference nights. As the weather turns colder it's also important to review our Distance Learning information for cold weather days. When we return from Fall Break, the MS will be very busy with field trips, Halloween, and before you know it Thanksgiving and Christmas Breaks! As hard as we work in MS it's important to have fun. I appreciate the student council dress-up days, fun Halloween activities, and dances. It's not too early to look ahead at some of these events you should be aware of:
Oct. 24th: Anti-Bullying Presentation. "Please click for more information"
Oct. 31st Halloween: We have many 'dress-up' days at MS. Halloween is no exception. Feel free to participate by wearing a costume. Please no weapons and keep it school-level appropriate. If you have questions it's always best to ask beforehand.
November 11th Veterans Day: We will honor our Veterans on this date during 1st period. If you or a family member is a veteran and would like to be a honored participant in the ceremony please contact the MS office. We are also accepting emailed photographs or copies of photos for our 'honor' display.

Winter Formal Dance: December 10th (More Details to follow)
Thank you!
Message from the Dean:
As we start the winter sports season I would like to remind you about academic athletic eligibility. In order to participate your child needs to be passing a minimum of 5 classes at the start of the season. We can revisit grades and participation at Mid-term.
This information was sent last newsletter but it's worth repeating:
I would also like to take this time to remind our parents about some services that may be of interest to you or your child. Every Tuesday and Thursday, our National Honor Society provides free tutoring after school until 3:30 in room S-10. This is a great opportunity for students who need assistance in a specific subject, need to catch up because of extended absences, or simply just want to get ahead in their class.
As a middle school parent/student it is never too early to start thinking about your academic path in high school and beyond. Use this link to learn more about the 21st Century Scholar Program. https://learnmoreindiana.org/students-families/grades-6-8/
Please feel free to reach out anytime with questions or concerns involving your child. I can be reached at ryan.ward@nwsc.k12.in.us or my ext.3014.

Seventh grade students are currently in the Health and will return to PE in late November or early December.
Students will be starting their swimming unit starting on Monday, December 5 and continuing through Friday, December 16.
We will be starting our introduction to code/programming in November in computer science! This will be a great way for our students to get a start with an easy programming experience that will allow them to show their creativity!
We are finishing up our motion unit in science where students have had various opportunities to test Newton’s 3 Laws of motion and experiment with various concepts of motion. After fall break, we will start a STEAM unit on imagineering which will include using Language and Visual Arts to design and build a theme park attraction.
Students in Miss Shrock's Language Arts class have finished a novel study of The Outsiders. After fall break, students will write short stories.
