Gifted means students who perform or show potential for performing at remarkably high levels of accomplishment when compared to others at their age, experience, or environment.
How are students identified as gifted in
Ohio?
Ohio law requires each school to identify gifted students in K-12 in the following areas: Superior Cognitive Ability, Creative Thinking Ability, Specific Academic Ability, and Visual & Performing Arts.
What are the steps to identify a student as gifted?
The Ohio Department of Education & Workforce maintains a list of assessments approved for gifted pre-screening and identification. Tinora uses the IOWA and CogAT assessments. Parents will be notified of testing results.
What is a WEP?
A WEP is a Written Education Plan for students identified as gifted who are being officially served according to Ohio Administrative Code 3301-51-15. It includes: academic goals, methods for evaluation, progress toward achieving the goal, schedule for reporting progress, staff members responsible, policies for waiver of assignments, the scheduling of tests, and review date.
