Referrals
Tinora ensures there are ample and appropriate scheduling procedures for assessments and reassessment using the following: group tests, individual tests, checklists, auditions, performances, displays of work and/or exhibitions.
General or Transfer Students
Tinora accepts scores on assessments instruments approved for use by Ohio DEW provided by other districts and/or trained personnel. Tinora ensures that any child transferring into the district will be assessed within 90 days of the transfer at the request of the parents. Parents shall contact the building principal.
Scheduling
In the case of students who have requested assessment or have been recommended for assessment by teachers, parents, or other students, at least two opportunities a year for assessment regardless of the grade levels where gifted services are offered. A student’s initial assessment shall be completed within 90 days of referral.
Appeal Procedures
Parents have an opportunity to appeal any decisions about the results of any screening procedure or the scheduling of children for assessment, or the placement of a student in any program for the receipt of services. An appeal by the parents is the reconsideration of the results of any part of the identification process that would include: screening procedure or assessment instrument, scheduling of assessment, placement in any program or receipt of service.
Services
Tinora ensures equal opportunity for all student identified as gifted to receive services. Grades 2-12 are provided gifted instruction in subjects identified. Students are selected based on identification from Ohio DEW approved instruments in cognitive and/or specific academic areas. Services may include: differentiated curriculum, cluster grouping, accelerated coursework, post-secondary, advanced placement and or independent study.
Special Populations
Tinora does not discriminate and ensures that special populations are included in the screening and assessment procedures. Appropriate instruments are used to ensure that students who are culturally and linguistically diverse are included.
Withdrawal
If at any time a student wishes to withdraw from gifted services, the parent should write the request to the building administrator. A conference will be scheduled to finalize the withdrawal process.
