The Northwest High School Marching Band is a part of a strong tradition of bands at Northwest High School, striving to perpetuate the legacy of quality bands created by the pioneering spirit of Emil Puffenberger (1909-1990), long time Northwest High School (Canal Fulton High School) band director from 1935-1972.
The band is led by Mr.Stephen Imler, a graduate of Kent State University. Mr. Imler is joined in the task by assistant band directors Kimberly Good and David Jenkins. Along for the ride is a robust marching band staff that includes Associate Director Sam Samuelson, Percussion Coordinator Joe Skowronski, Front Ensemble Director Nathaniel Weber, Battery Percussion Instructor Mat Markuz, and Majorette Advisory Julie Heddy-McLaughlin.
The Northwest Marching Band boats a variety of annual performances. You will find the ensemble supporting the football team at halftime, marching in four annual parades, and performing at OMEA marching band competitions. The band made a splash in the competition marching scene in the fall of 2023 and has since earned excellent ratings and marched away with best in class and best auxilary. The program is looking forward to continuing this trend and raising the bar.
