Are Girl Sports Undervalued Compared To Boys?

Katarina Seitz

The short answer is yes. Girls' sports are extremely undervalued compared to boys' sports. Because boys are considered more “Athletic” They get more funding and better coaches. If you were going to a men's varsity basketball game you would have to park around 5 blocks away. Well compared to if you were going to a women's varsity basketball game you would be overwhelmed by all of the spots to sit and there would be so many spots to park. According to www.forbes.com WNBA players make $71,635 on average while the average NBA salary is $6.4 million. Last year's No. 1 WNBA draft pick, A'ja Wilson, is earning just $52,564. And bonuses amplify this discrepancy.” Men in the NBA make around 10,776,383 while women competing in the WNBA make only 113,295. That is over a 10 million dollar difference. This discrimination can be found from young ages too. Even from my own experience, I have been first-hand in this discrimination. At this point, it is getting out of hand and needs to be stopped. So yes women's sports are extremely undervalued.
