Is the 7th grade baseball team full of future MLB players?

Kaden Elliot in picture

I went to a northview 7th grade baseball game last week and they had a great performance versus a lowel travel team! Weber morrissette got a hit over shortstop to get a double. He also got hit by the ball and got to take his base. Kaden elliot got a nice hit and got on base. Hunter vergowie got our team a point and helped the team.

Other than that, Hudson lowes pitching was phenomenal. The whole team did very well and almost everybody got a hit! Ben Jackson is the 1st one up to bat and started the game off with a great hit. I also saw a few friends from crossroads supporting their friends that were on the field playing. The crossroads team lost 4-2 but still an amazing game to watch, and their teamwork is amazing. They were communicating and doing their very best. I sudgest going to a game sometime! The season is just coming to a amazing end with a record of 2-2 so far.

Is the Crossroads track team full of speed demons?

Oliver Williams-Wert

The track season just started a few weeks ago and there are some crazy people on the team. I saw one of their practices and i was surprised about how fast these people are! Christian jensen is a ful on speedster passinng everybody in the room running around the gym. There is tons of track meets that they have had and are going to have soon. I recommend that you go to one and cheer on your friends.

Almost half the school is in track and with some teachers including Mrs. Vogel as one of the coaches. Thanks to them for helping coach and guide this wonderful team. And kudos to the team leaders helping their group.

Girls 8th Grade Basketball

 Jocelyn de Longpre'

I interviewed Mr. Galmish about the 8th-grade girl's basketball team this year and about his coaching experience. He talked about how well the girls work together, some of the other sports he has coached, and much more.

Q: Why did you choose to coach girls' basketball/ basketball in general?

A: Because basketball was my first love since I was very young. I started to play when I was in elementary school and enjoyed playing the game and it was natural once I was not very good at it anymore and I am old, that I would coach basketball. So I just enjoy being around it.

Q: How long have you been coaching Basketball?

A: I have been coaching basketball for probably 20 years. Boys first and then girls I've coached for maybe 6 years now.

Q: How long have you been overall coaching?

A: I think overall I've been coaching for 20 years and it's all been at the middle school level because I ended up teaching middle schoolers so that's when I fell into coaching.

Q: Are there any grades other than 8th grade that you have coached?

A: It's just been 7th and 8th grade my whole career.

Q: What other sports have you coached?

A: I coach Football and Tennis. I have also coached Track in the past and Baseball

Q: Out of all the sports that you have coached do you have a personal favorite?

A: Basketball is my first love, so it is my favorite.

Q: How long are you planning on coaching Basketball?

A: For as long as I'm able and capable to do a good job.

Q: How has this season been so far?

A: So far I have really enjoyed the basketball season. My daughter is playing and also just the group of girls is just a great group and a lot of fun,  good-natured, and basketball is a sport and it's supposed to be fun so you learn a lot of skills through basketball like teamwork and you learn how to be disciplined and learn how to work hard and hopefully, those girls will learn some of those skills that they can carry with them for the rest of their life.

Interview With Addison Krandel On Tennis

Laleeya Gutzman

In this article, we have decided to interview Addison Krandel, a 7th-grade student  in our school on the topic of tennis. Her responses to the questions provided will be shared in this article.

Q: What does a regular day for you in tennis look like for you?

A: Working on things that we think we didn’t do very well on from the last meets like backhands, and serving.

Q: What is the reason you do tennis?

A: I've done it for as long as I can remember and it's enjoyable.

Q: What are some concerns or stressful things from tennis that you have?

A: The most stressful part is probably when you think you can hit a shot in attack position, then you miss it and your partner isn’t ready to hit it.

Q: What are a few sports provided by the school that you would recommend for people?

A: Tennis and Volleyball.

Q: Is it something you still do out of School?

A: Yes, when I have free time and no homework I try to get out and play tennis whether it be on the courts or in my front yard.

Q: What do you think of your teammates in tennis?

A: Most of them are new, but they advanced quickly.

Boy's Swim Questions

Kara Van Stensil

The boy's swim team this year did pretty good but could have been better if they had more people on the team this year. This year they only had 13 SWIMMERS and that's not very many compared to the girl's swim team which had like 40 swimmers. Interviewed one swimmer Oliver Nibbelink. I had asked him some questions and these were his answers the people I look up to are really fast swimmers and Katie Ledecky or Michael Phelps. Oliver swims Backstroke and Freestyle. Oliver will try and do swim in high school if he can he also has never been on a swim team before this season. Some advice if your going to swim is that if you chose to sick with  swim or dive through middle school you should definitely do it in the high-school.

7th and 8th Girls Swim Team Season!

Rianna Alejos

The Girls' 7 and 8th grade swim season lasted from around October 23- December 15th. It went quite well, they won 3 out of 8 and placed fifth in their conference. Down below is more information about the Girls' season from Coach Howe and what he thought, and more about the team.

1.What was your favorite part of the season?

“My favorite part of this season and every season are the relationships built. I love meeting new athletes. I love challenging athletes I’ve coached for years while getting to know them even better. And I love seeing the friendships built between swimmers throughout the season.”

2. What progress did they make from start to finish?

“Every single swimmer and diver improved through the season. At the conference meet we had sixty-five percent of Northview swimmers achieve personal bests!”

3. What should next year's season swimmers know?

“Swimming has a reputation for being hard and therefore scary. And it is hard. But humans are designed to do hard things. They can do it if they are brave enough to try. They’ll perhaps even grow to love it, And it’s fun!”

4. Who were the top swimmers?

“Our top point scorers were Sarah Botsford & Violet Hoogenstein because of their versatility. But our team was deep!  What we lacked in top speed, we made up for in swimmers that could finish top six in an event and score points. So I say the team, the team, the team, was top-notch. We might not have won a ton of races. But we finished in the remaining scoring spots over and over again.”

5. How many people beat their personal record?

(See above percentage… Everyone improved. So 100% through the season)

6. Why should people give swimming a chance?

“There is nothing quite like the feeling of accomplishment upon finishing a hard practice or achieving a personal best time or beating the competition in a relay.  You feel like the king of the world.”

7. Was there anything you would have changed?

We included 6th graders and girls from Coopersville to the team this year all at once with no sound plan pre-season as to how it would all work out, or even if it could work out. Thus we figured it out day by day on the fly, and it was messy… BUT we figured it out and it was running smoothly after a couple weeks!  In the end, all was well.
