October 5-9
Week of Respect!
As per the Department of Education, "The Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act (P.L.2010, c.122) requires that the week beginning with the first Monday in October of each year be designated as the Week of Respect in New Jersey. To recognize the importance of social and emotional learning and character education, school districts, charter schools and renaissance school projects are required to observe the week by providing age-appropriate instruction focused on preventing HIB".
Resources
To teach self-respect, consider encouraging self-care. These exercises (created by Namaste in school) are a great resource for practicing stress management. you can color them, read them, and (when using the QR code) gain a visual understanding of how to do these deep breathing strategies!
First Grade Halloween Card Exchange
We're learning about RESPECT all month long!
After reading Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, our first grade students identify the acts of kindness and friendship highlighted in the book. Finally, students make anonymous Halloween Friendship cards, and they each receive one on the day of the Halloween parade!
