LAS VEGAS — Music plays a huge role in who people listen. It can describe someone’s personality, bring back memories, and easily change a person’s mood. Everyone has different music tastes, and those differences show how diverse people can be. Students at South CTA were interviewed about their favorite artists, genres, and songs and what makes them meaningful.
For South CTA student Cash Sombor, music plays a major role in his everyday life. Sombor explained that music helps him stay distracted from current events and gives him something positive to focus on. Music can be more than something people listen to for entertainment. For some people, it can help them relax, reduce stress, or feel happier after a bad day.
“If I listen to calm music, it keeps me relaxed, and if I listen to more hype music, it brings my mood up,” Sombor said.
Sombor explained that he listens to music wherever he goes. Whether he is at school, at home, or traveling, music is something he enjoys having around him. When asked about his preferred music platform, he replied, “I prefer music on Spotify.”
Music can also help people connect. Students may have different backgrounds and interests, but they can still bond over a favorite artist, song, or genre. Music gives people a way to express themselves without having to explain exactly how they feel.
Everyone has their own unique taste in music, and those differences are what make each person unique. Music can bring people together while also showing who they are.
Musical Memories
I interviewed Ethan Harris about music and what it means to him. We asked him at school in the Meadows hallway during second period. Harris explains how music is a big part of who he is since it’s a part of his everyday life. He explains that he listens to some R&B but mostly rap. Music is important to him because it has always been around him, and he even has family members who make music. Because of this, music has become something meaningful in his life and something he can always connect with.
Music also affects Harris’s mood depending on the vibe of the song. Some songs can help him feel calm, while others can make him feel more energetic or happy. He explains why music is important to him, saying, “It helps me focus, and it’s always been around. I have family who make music, so it’s always been a big thing in my life,” Harris said.
This shows that music is more than just something he listens to for fun. It helps him get through his everyday life. He also shares the role music plays in his life. “I would describe music as a little brother. I gotta keep it around all the time,” said Harris. This shows how close he feels to music and how much he depends on it. Harris loves listening to music with his friends and family, especially when they spend time together.
