The Tryout of A Lifetime! Will they Thrive or Dive?

The Bob Miller Dance Team held tryouts on October 2-3rd in the fitness lab to determine who will be on the 2019-2020 dance team.

Bob Miller dance students needed to pass “tests” before being able to tryout for dance. For example, students needed to turn in an Athletic Form and attend a clinic. “We are looking for someone who, of course, loves dance. But also that can make the commitment to showing up to practice twice a week and is going to be a positive role model for the other girls on the team,” said Ms. Maki.

This year, many students were very excited to tryout. For example, “I am going to try out for the captain so I’m hoping that I get it,” said Crystal Goldsmith, 8th Grade Dance Team returner. This is Ms. Maki’s second year as dance coach.

“I really like Ms. Maki as a coach, she is really nice, and very helpful” said Emma O’Grady, 8th Grade Dance Team returner. Ms. Maki, Dance Team coach, explained, “I love the opportunity to get to know new students outside of the classroom.”

The girls tried out in front of a panel of judges and needed to try to keep their cool. The judges scored them on a few key criteria. As tryouts approached, students needed to practice their dance that they learned and their leaps.

After successfully completing tryouts, the following students were selected to be on the 2019-2020 Dance Team: Azaria Adams, Ella Azucenas, Jordyn Bell, Hannah Branca, Eva Cavaliere, Savannah Collins, Destinee Fragae, Riley Gresko, Taylor Gutierrez, Jenna Hong, Thalia Huygens, Brooke Kaseff, Taylor Kerns, Naveyah Latham, Sierra Nelson, Emma O'Grady, Sophia Roqueni, Mary Louise Tsunis, Madalyn Ulrey, and Erin Wright.
